The chemical refining stages of Sunflower oil are also similar to other soft oils except dewaxing which is additional as sunflower oil contains wax which will be removed by dewaxing process.

The crude oil in the open conical tank was heated to 45 °C and degummed by adding 0.2 % phosphoric acid (50 % w/w strength) with slow agitation for 30 min. Then the oil was settled for 30 min and the water with dissolved gum was drained out.
Crude sunflower oil has a low chlorophyll content, which is removed during bleaching and during refining. Fig. 14 shows the content of total carotenoids and the content of total chlorophylls in cold pressed oils obtained by screw pressing sunflower seeds with different presence of hull and impurities ( Romanić, 2015 ).

The quality and composition of crude and refined oil were analysed compared.
