world. The relative contributions of palm produce to the country’s exports continued to decline (to 36.4% in 1969 and 13.2% in 1974). Recent data by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN, 2007), which showed the trend of oil palm production in Nigeria (from 1970 to 2006), indicated that the output of palm oil rose from 88,000 tonnes
However, the projected increase in demand for vegetable oil by 2050 is expected to lead to a rise in oil palm production [41]. To summarize, the oil palm industry plays a crucial role in generating biomass waste in Malaysia and Indonesia. This biomass carries immense potential as a source of renewable energy, raw materials, and value-added

This investigation explores single-step biodiesel synthesis using palm oil mill effluent (POME) as a feedstock. Normally considered a waste product from the extraction process of palm oil, POME treatment is difficult and can cause significant environmental pollution if discharged directly into watercourses. Fatty acids (FAs) present in POME were extracted and subsequently esterified in situ to

The zero-waste research programme has successfully demonstrated that oil palm milling process by-products can be used to produce renewable energy and organic fertilisers by applying circular economy principles. In addition, they can be used to recover water resources. The environment is not only protected but new revenue streams can be created.
However, domestic palm oil production volume began to decline from 1965 (Table 10-A). In the late 1960s and 1970s domestic palm oil production increased at an average annual rate of 1.6%, which was less than the population growth rate of 2.5% per annum and consumption rate of 4% (Udom, 1989).
